Where the same platforms work worldwide
The same companies, seen from above: how far each one reaches, and who owns whom. Useful if you move on and want to know whether your app still works where you land.
Uber
Over 70 countries and more than 10,000 cities. Rides everywhere it operates; Uber Eats and Uber Courier only in some of those markets — Romania has had rides and, recently, Courier, with Eats announced to return later in 2026.
Bolt
More than 50 countries and over 850 cities across Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America, with more than 200 million customers and about 4.5 million driver, courier and merchant partners, by the company’s own account. Rides are the core; Bolt Food, Bolt Drive car-sharing and scooter or e-bike rental exist in a smaller set of those countries. Rides launched in Canada, New Zealand, Taiwan and Greece during 2025.
Wolt
Around 25 countries and over 300 cities, from Helsinki to Tokyo. Owned by DoorDash since 2022, which is why Wolt and DoorDash rarely compete in the same country: DoorDash keeps North America and Australasia, Wolt takes Europe and Japan.
Glovo
Concentrated on south-west Europe, eastern Europe, central Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. It sold its Latin American business to Delivery Hero in 2020 and pulled out of the Middle East, then Delivery Hero bought a majority of Glovo itself in 2022. Its strategy is to enter only markets where it can be first or second.
Delivery Hero, the parent above Glovo
A German group operating in more than 50 countries under many names — foodpanda across Asia, Talabat in the Gulf, and Glovo in Europe and Africa. If you work for one of its brands in another country, the structure will look familiar.
The ones you will meet elsewhere, not here
DoorDash in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Deliveroo and Just Eat Takeaway across much of western Europe. Lyft in North America, which bought the European taxi app Free Now and its roughly 150 European cities. None of these operate in Romania.
Figures are the companies’ own published numbers and they round them generously. Ownership changes often — three of the five entries here changed hands in the last four years.
